Beta is the story of Raju, the only child of a widowed multi millionaire. Raju’s father can provide him anything he wants but Raju’s only desire is to get mother’s love, in order to please Raju, his father gets married to Nagmani, thinking that she will take care of Raju more than his real mother would. Raju becomes completely devoted to his stepmother, doing whatever she wishes. Time passes by, Raju grows up and gets married to Saraswati. Saraswati discovers that Nagmani’s motherly love for Raju is fake and all what Nagmani is interested in, is capturing Raju’s wealth.
After the passing away of his mom, Raju is brought up by his dad, who unable to look after him, decides to re-marry, and this time to Laxmi, who is a devious and cunning woman. Soon after the marriage, she has her brother, Totara, and his wife, Menavati, move in. Both brother and sister plan to get her husband certified as mentally deranged, and have him locked up in a room, in which they succeed. Raju is brought up without any education and skills, and works on the estate like other labourers. When Raju grows up, he is very devoted to his stepmother, who wants him to marry an illiterate girl, so that she can continue to rule over them. But Raju marries Laxmi, who is educated, and shrewd enough to know that Raju is being taken advantage of. When Laxmi intervenes on Raju’s behalf, she is humiliated and asked to leave by Raju himself. Laxmi must now decide to stay and face the risk of more abuse, or leave and begin life anew.

The story is centered around the squabbling Sharma family, headed by their eccentric Daduji Harindranath Chattopadhyay , which has a dubious reputation the inability to retain a cook for more than a few months due to their ill treatment of their servants. The family’s disrepute spreads to such an extent that no person wants to be employed as a cook in their home, ironically named Shanti Nivas (abode of peace).
Then one day a young man named Raghu (Rajesh Khanna) offers to work as a cook, and he is hired. Raghu quickly understands the family members’ preferences and works to restore peace to Shanti Nivas, and soon the squabbles and arguments come to an end.
And then, one day, the Sharmas find the family jewels and Raghu missing.
Actually Raghu was a professor by profession. He had learnt dance, music and cooking. He gave up his profession after seeing so many families in despair and not living in peace. He made his motto of life to work in these kinds of families and teach them the value of small moments of happiness and love and thus making peace again.
In the end it is shown that he is on his way to find some another family and fix it.

Raj (Shahrukh Khan) is a young man still living with his mother who wishes to follow in his late father’s footsteps by working as a detective. Under a pseudonym, “Baadshah”, he runs Baadshah Detective Agency out of a Mumbai office full of cheesy detective gadgetry that can be converted to an apartment or doctor’s office by means of a rotating wall panel system. In his employ are several occasionally helpful, yet very simple, individuals – Rocky, Bhola, Chauki Lal, and chief assistant Ram Lal (Johnny Lever) – who help him with his work. Though Baadshah tries hard (and likely fails) to pass his agency off as highly-sophisticated and constantly busy, he actually receives little business, and is desperate for a big break. Though he manages to retrieve a businessman’s diamonds from a moustached Wild West-style villain named Manikchand (who happens to be working in collaboration with the businessman’s crooked underling, Saxena) in a casino through trickery and athleticism, he ends up losing the reward money as a result of being responsible for the casino needing extensive repairs. As a result of such misfortune, Baadshah’s time as a detective seems to be running out, as his mother’s patience for his unfruitful mischief-making is wearing thin.

Amar Manohar (Aamir Khan) and Prem Bhopali (Salman Khan) are two ne’er-do-wells from Bhopal who dream of becoming rich without working for it—by marrying a rich heiress, Raveena (Raveena Tandon). One has a habit of saying ‘haila!’ and the other has a habit of saying ‘ooii maa!’. They meet on a bus and discover that they are both out to win the heiress. Each of them tries various ploys to eliminate his rival, all of which fail ludicrously. In the end, Amar and Prem agree to join forces, insinuate themselves into the heiress’ household, and there compete for Raveena’s love.
Amar tries to get Raveena to hit him by annoying her. After several tries, he succeeds when Raveena, quite fed up with him, hits him with a log of wood. Amar acts as if he is unconscious. He is taken into Raveena’s mansion, where he is attended by Prem, pretending to be a doctor. After some skirmishing for Raveena’s attention, Prem finds himself increasingly attracted to Karisma (Karisma Kapoor), Raveena’s secretary. What Amar and Prem do not know is that Karisma—whose actual name is Raveena—is the real heiress. She switched places with her secretary in an attempt to find a man who would love her for herself, not for her money.
Amar and Prem then concoct an inane plot to win the confidence of the heiress’s father Ram Gopal Bajaj (Paresh Rawal) by first kidnapping and then rescuing him. But they do not know that the father’s evil twin Teja aka Shyam Gopal Bajaj (Paresh Rawal) has plans to kidnap him too, and start living as him. So both Teja and Amar and Prem send their men to kidnap him. But Teja’s men take him by rendering the men sent by Amar and Prem unconscious. Amar and Prem then decide that they will really have to rescue him. Later Amar and Prem find out that Raveena was really Karishma and Karishma was Raveena and that they both wanted to experience each other’s life because of how they didn’t get the respect they wanted.
But Teja himself has an enemy, Crime Master Gogo (Shakti Kapoor), who then enters the plot. He takes everyone hostage, including Raveena, Karishma, Ram Gopal Bajaj, Teja and his cronies Robert (Viju Khote) and Bhalla (Shehzad Khan) to steal the precious diamonds that belong to the rich Ram Gopal Bajaj. Amar and Prem go to rescue them all.
